Protecting Your Home from Heavy Rains
Protecting your home is protecting your loved ones.
Now that a potentially strong El Niño is brewing in the Pacific Ocean, there’s no better time to get ready than now.
Where the Buzz is Coming from
Experts describe El Niño as the periodic warming of ocean surface temperatures in central to eastern Pacific. This cycle then affects weather across the globe.
Back in 1997-1998, a record-breaking El Niño hit California. Rainstorms caused crippling floods. Mudslides ravaged homes. Debris made major roads impassable. The natural disaster claimed 17 lives and caused over $400 million worth of damages in property.
These storms that took place almost two decades ago are garnering attention as experts find them similar with the weather pattern this year.
With that said, El Niño 2015-2016 will most likely bring Southern California its much awaited rainfall, but not without wreaking havoc. The condition is also likely to continue until spring next year.
Protecting your Home from the Relentless Weather
The record drought has made California landscapes more vulnerable to damages. Burn-scarred soil, for one, wouldn’t be able to absorb water. Hence, while the weather remains unpredictable still, it’s best to get ready for the worse.
A simple maintenance will go a long way to protecting your home from heavy rains. Be on the look-out for potential problem areas. Check out this infographic for tips to preparing your home for rainstorms. Feel free to share it with your friends and loved ones.
