Keeping Your Patio Warm in the Winter
Now that summer has officially ended, it may feel like it’s time to say goodbye to your patio for a while. Thankfully, this doesn’t have to be so. There are several things you can do to make your patio more comfortable during the colder months, no matter the budget. Some are larger projects and some are very simple and easy to do.
Let’s take a look at a few of the changes you can make to keeping patio warm:
Adding A Roof
Constructing a pergola or patio cover is a big project, but the benefits are twofold. In the winter, a roof will contain the heat and keep you and your guests warmer, and in the summer it keeps you cool by blocking the sun. You can also add lighting to the roof, which will generate additional heat and allow you to enjoy your space longer when it starts getting dark earlier. The main difference between a pergola and a patio cover is that a pergola is a freestanding structure, while a patio cover is an extension of the house. Either one can be built, depending on the circumstances of the existing space.
Adding A Fireplace
Another obvious way to keep warm is to install a fireplace or fire pit in your patio. While you can custom-build a large fireplace to integrate into your patio, you can also purchase a fire pit or fire bowl for a lot less. There are hundreds of styles to choose from, so it isn’t hard to find one that doesn’t just fit your patio but complements it as well.
Heating Lamps
Another easy way to keeping patio warm is to get an outdoor heating lamp. These are common in commercial properties like hotels and shopping centers, and are also in most outdoor seating areas of restaurants. There’s no reason why it can’t be a great addition to your home, too. A good heating lamp can be purchased for around $300 and while most run on propane tanks, electric ones can be found as well.
Furniture and Textiles
Adding the right furniture and textiles to your patio will heat it up and keep you more comfortable without spending a lot. Plus, adding color and texture can automatically make your space feel warmer and more inviting. This is one of the easiest ways to make your outdoor space fall-friendly. Pick the perfect outdoor furniture like couches, chairs, tables and benches, then add pillows, cushions, throw blankets and a rug for the floor to complete the look.
